Jack got his very first inside-the-park HR this weekend!

It's been a LOONG time since I've posted anything on there, but I just sent this email to Grammie and my brothers and wanted to save it here too:

It's been a while and I know you all have been wondering how Jack's been doing with baseball, so I wanted to send a quick update.

He's had plenty of over-the-fence homers but has never gotten an inside-the-park homer, until this weekend.  That boy is SO FAST!  There were 2 runners on base and he hit a line drive down the 3rd base line that got past the left fielder and rolled to the back left corner of the fence.  He flew around the bases and as he was approaching 3rd, he glanced at the left fielder and his 3rd base coach.  The coach kind'of shrugged his shoulders (meaning: "if you think you can make it, go for it") and the left fielder was just getting ready to throw the ball, so he went for it.  The throw was on target, but he slide on the back side of the base and caught it with his hand as the catcher tried to lay down the tag and was SAFE!  It was very exciting and the whole team ran out to congratulate him (just like a regular over-the-fence homer).

I know inside-the-park homers are no big deal when you're younger and happen all the time b/c the kids can't catch, throw, make errors, etc. but at this age, these kids are GOOD.  He's playing for the Castle Cub team which basically means the team consists of the best 8th graders in Warrick Country.  He's known these boys most of his life, but they all went to about 5 different travel teams for the past 4-5 years.  Now they're all back on the same team and it is so fun to watch them play together.  Several of the kids on Jack's travel team made the Cub team, but honestly, only Jack and 2 other kids are starters.  The other starters are from different travel teams.  So far, they are 6-0 and I think they have a chance to go undefeated.  There is so much talent on that team.  I know I'm VERY biased but everyone keeps telling us how good Jack looks out there, and I never thought this would be true, but I really think he's the best kid on the freekin team!  His bat has been red hot.  He's playing great on 1st base and SS.  He's leading the team in stolen bases.  His pitching is damn near perfect so far.  I just can't believe how good he's doing.

I know I've just jinxed him by sending this email, but Mom and Greg, if you get a chance to come watch, I think you'll really enjoy it.

Love you all!!!
Jeff
